2009-04-23 21:23:48 HONG KONG, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Russia signed a visa abolition agreement in Beijing on Thursday to grant a mutual visa-free access for a stay of up to 14 days for HKSAR passport holders and Russian nationals, according to Hong Kong Information Services Department.

The Director of Immigration, Peh Yun-lu, on behalf of the HKSAR government, signed the Agreement with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to China, Sergey Razov.

The agreement provides visa-free access to HKSAR passport holders visiting Russia for a stay of up to 14 days. Russian nationals will also enjoy 14 days' visa-free access to Hong Kong.

A spokesman for the Immigration Department of the HKSAR said that the implementation date will be announced when internal procedures are completed in mid-year.

The arrangement will promote trade, business and tourism between the two sides.

The deal brings the number of countries and territories agreeing to grant visa-free access or visa-on-arrival to HKSAR passport holders to 138.

The agreement will take in force after several months: so, after the months Hong Kong passport holders will be able to go to Russia without a visa.
